Mogalakwena

Mogalakwena holds the status of being the most expansive platinum mine in South Africa. Founded in 1993 in close proximity to the town of Mokopane in the Limpopo Province, this establishment comprises of several uncovered excavations.


Finsch Diamond Mine

The Finsch diamond mine, which is also owned by Petra Diamonds, is located around 165 kilometres to the west of Kimberley. The deposit, which was found in 1961, was initially extracted using open pit mining. A subterranean mine was subsequently constructed beneath the excavation. In terms of production, it ranks as the second-largest diamond mine in South Africa, following Venetia Mine.


Kimberley Mine

The Kimberley Mine, commonly known as "The Big Hole", is where the initial hard-rock diamond resources were discovered. The mine commenced operations in 1871 and ceased operations in 1914, during which period approximately three metric tons of diamonds were extracted. The mine reaches a depth of 215 metres, making it one of the largest manually dug holes globally.


Palabora Mine

Palabora Mine is a mine located near Phalaborwa, in the Limpopo Province, that reaches a depth of 800 metres. The mine has been operational since 1956 and currently holds a monopoly as the sole producer of refined copper in South Africa.
